We all know about internet banking and most of us use it quite often as well, but few of us actually understand about the history of internet banking and how it all came out. Knowing the history of internet banking can be incredibly useful, especially since it will allow you to have more respect for the little things that you take for granted.

How it All Began

Computers themselves have really come an enormous way since their initial establishment, as the earliest electronic computers were so large that they would take up the entire area of a room, while today some are so small that they can hardly be seen at all.

In today’s world, computers play an incredibly large role in the way the world exists in general, and the majority of tasks could actually not be completed if not for the use of computers. Although there are certainly some areas and jobs that cannot yet be completed solely by computers and which thus still require actual manpower, for the most part, computers have helped to make life significantly easier, productive, and more convenient for us all.

The history of Internet banking obviously begins with the history of the Internet, which is notoriously known throughout the world now as a household name, but which actually did not even exist too long ago.

Although the term Internet was first adopted around the year 1974, it wasn’t until the 1990s that the Internet became a really universal adoption. The Internet grew incredibly throughout the 90s, and as it continued to grow, various different search engines and Web directories were created in order to assist Web browsers, as well to track pages on the Web and allow people to find things more easily.

Internet banking has been around for quite a few years now, but has really only become prominent over the past year or so in particular. Internet banking offers an array of different advantages to the user, including: account balances and history including year-to-date information, the ability to transfer money from one account to another and to payees for bill payments, check history, reorders, and stop payments, check credit card balances and statements, complete online loan applications, secure interactive messaging with staff, and much more.

Internet banking basically allows you to be able to do everything that you can in your regular banking institution, only with the benefit that you can do it all right from the convenience of your own home. Not only is this great because you can be comfortable and have peace of mind knowing that you can keep track yourself of all your banking issues, but as well it allows for more ease because you never have to worry about rushing out and making it to the bank in time, as you can complete Internet banking tasks around the clock.

The main purpose that banks have been serving since their inception is keeping our money safe for us. While keeping our money safe, they also let us earn a certain amount of interest on the money deposited with them. Traditional banks have been doing this, and internet banks continue the same function. The only difference is in the way the transactions are made.

Online banking has been around for quite a few years. In fact, it was introduced in the 1980s and has come a long way since then. The last decade has seen a profuse growth in internet banking transactions. Several pieces of legislation have also been introduced in this area.

Though it began in the 1980s, it was only in the mid nineties that internet banking really caught on. What attracts customers to internet banking is the round the clock availability and ease of transactions. Studies estimate that internet banking still has a long way to go. There are several banks that have customers who prefer banking in the traditional ways. Statistics released by the FDIC show that only 40% of the banks in the U.S. offer internet banking facilities worth mentioning. All the others may have an online presence but do not have enough online transactions to justify their presence on the internet.

Some customers have been known to turn to internet banking due to dissatisfaction with standard procedures and practices. The total absence of human interaction appeals to some people. Some customers turn to internet banking facilities for security reasons. This is mainly because of customers being assured of banks’ ability to keep transactions safe and secured.

Most online transactions are made using the Internet Explorer interface. The Internet Explorer has been around for more than ten years now.

Having goods and services marketed on the internet seems second nature now, but actually internet marketing is a relatively new phenomenon. When the internet first started and more of the public began to access it, companies began to realize that they could utilize the internet to provide information to potential customers. The first examples of internet marketing were simply text websites. They were very basic and simple with no pictures or graphics. As the internet started to develop, more and more companies realized that they had a global audience at their disposal. Websites became more complex. They contained pictures of products and graphics intended to keep the customer interested.

By our standards today, these first websites seem archaic. However, they served their purpose as people began to turn to the internet for information about companies and what they had to offer. If someone wanted to buy something, they would call the company on a phone number provided by the website. Eventually, the technology existed so that companies could sell their products right from their website. E-commerce began to grow very quickly once methods to securely provide your credit card number became available. Consumers could now order products right from their home. Companies could reach customers all over the world. Online auction sites became very popular as people could sell their items to each other for a small fee.

There also was an increased use of the internet as a source of advertising. Companies began to place ads on other websites to promote their products. Today pay per click advertisements benefit both the publishers of the websites and the company which has goods to sell. Affiliate programs are also very popular. They allow website owners to advertise products on their website and if a customer purchases the item, then the website owner gets a percentage of the sale. The internet has even been used as a primary source of advertising. Companies have created innovative advertising programs, sometimes referred to as viral marketing. Viral marketing seeks to create a buzz about a product through word of mouth. Some viral marketing plans even use alternate reality games in order to promote a particular product.

Because of the expansive nature of internet marketing, it is sometimes overwhelming for a company to know where to begin. Luckily, there are many experts in this field who can create a plan which is sure to bring you success. There are even companies which can help you maximize your local business. For instance, you can find people who can set up a Boston internet marketing plan and maximize your Boston SEO as part of your overall marketing plan.

What happens when you are just too tired to keep marketing your website? We all find ourselves at that place from time to time and it can be hard to simply muster the energy to think about marketing let alone do something special with the idea.

As an illustration let’s go back to a blizzard in 1886. The state of Kansas was hit hard and multiplied thousands of cattle died in the storm. Charles Jones had seen enough. He knew that buffalo herds could survive these types of conditions so why couldn’t the best traits of a cow be commingled with the best traits of the American bison and the resulting offspring provide greater resistance to harsh winter weather.

While Jones experimented so did ranchers in Canada who had also watched as many cattle died in harsh winter storms.

The best experiments led to beefalo in the United States and Cattalo in Canada. These new breeds were indeed more resistant to harsh winter conditions. The animals also featured meat that contained less cholesterol and overall fat content while providing all the traditional flavor of beef.

More than a hundred years have passed since the idea was first conceived and beefalo remains a marketable product. Sources are limited, but the small industry continues because a man by the name of Jones saw a need and worked to find an answer. Those who consume this meat indicate they can’t tell a difference from beef, but the health benefits of beefalo have been significantly documented.

A few hearty entrepreneurs believed in the possibilities associated with a new marketable product and there remains a remnant of individuals who still push for expanded markets for the products associated with these hybrid animals.

The idea is simple. If you have an idea keep pushing forward. Your idea will not improve by refusing to talk about it.

Marketing is simply the desire to share your good news with others who may benefit from that news. Ranchers pushed for years for the acceptance of beefalo and they may still have a ways to go to sway national and international consumers, but the point is they didn’t give up marketing the idea in more than 100 years.

If you’re not moving forward in marketing you are falling behind. If you’re not pushing into new markets you are likely losing both present and future customers. If you’re not willing to grow you are telling those who might be persuaded to become customers that you aren’t all that interested in your own product and by default you are not interested in their business.

Good news is something that needs to be shared; yet for some entrepreneurs the notion of business keeps them busy enough they forget to share good news. They forget what it was that led them to any success they may have already achieved.

If you have an idea that needs to be shared then, guess what, it is your job to share it. Your idea will help no one if they don’t know about it. Who will tell them if not you?

It was mostly only used by people who liked to use the technology as a hobby. However in 1995, the first internet phone was released by a company called VocalTec.

When internet telephony first began, it was limited to PC to PC use. This required that both users had the software on their computers and that both computers were connected to the internet. Both computers also had to have sound cards, microphones and headphones. You could only to speak to someone who was using a computer. This was because internet phones utilized packet-switched networks and regular phone lines utilized circuit-switched networks. At the time, the technology to connect these two networks was not available, which made it impossible for a PC to call a regular telephone number.

PC to PC calls still were quite popular, especially as instant messaging programs became commonplace. Chat rooms with voice capabilities were added, and many people began using their computer to talk to their friends instead of utilizing a traditional telephone.

The problem was that although you could talk to anyone with a computer, you could not use your internet phone to speak to people who had a regular telephone line. You also had to utilize a headset and a microphone in order to talk to anyone, and many people found this cumbersome.

The solution came when VoIP phone service was introduced. This new technology allowed users to utilize a regular telephone to make phone calls. The telephone was connected a router which then used high speed internet connections to transfer the voice signals. Once your system was set up, there is virtually no difference between your internet phone service and a traditional phone line.

In fact, the only real difference comes from the price. Companies such as Vonage offer great packages which allow you to make cheap calls, even when do a lot of international calling. They usually offer call waiting, call forwarding and caller ID for free.

The popularity of these services continues to grow, and advancements are constantly being made. Work is being done to improve the ability for the phone lines to identify locations for 911 calls and to improve the quality of the voice transmissions. However, many people use these services now because they find they can actually save money over traditional phone services. Internet telephony has come a long way from its beginning and the technology will undoubtedly continue to improve.

Temporary Internet Files are files like images, videos, websites, text, cookies etc. and they are stored in your hard drive on the backscene. Their purpose is to speed up surfing. When you visit a page your browser will look for images, media files and other files and download them to your hard disk.

Then it will create a sort of a template for that particular website with all the data that is frequently used. While you surf, other pages of the website will load faster because your browser has already stored some of the information. The downside of this is that it takes up space on your hard disk.

It is a good idea to frequently clean the contents of the folder where your temporary internet files are stored. This folder is usually located in your Documents and Settings -> username -> Local Settings directory. Replace -username- with your windows login name. Go ahead and find the temporary internet files folder and look at the contents. Chances are you will find mostly images, stylesheets and other media files (mp3, video etc.).

You can manually select the contents of the folder and send them to your recycle bin. Alternatively you can clean your temporary internet files folder through your browser’s top menu. In Internet Explorer go to:

Tools -> Internet -> Options (or Start -> Control Panel -> Internet Options)

In the -General- tab look for the Temporary Internet Files area and select -Delete Files…- to clear the contents. A confirmation message will appear. Click Ok and you’re done. Other options on the same tab will allow you to clear your cookies folder by clicking -Delete Cookies…- or your browser’s history by clicking on -Clear History-.

In Mozilla Firefox the term Temporary Internet Files is replaced by the term cache. In order to clean up your browser’s cache go to -Options- and click the -Privacy- tab. Here you can do all sorts of maintenance. You can delete all cache files and specify how long you want Firefox to remember what pages you have visited. You can also clean your cookies and your browser’s history.

Again, here’s how to clear your temporary internet files (internet cache) in Firefox:
Go to Tools -> Options and click the -Privacy- tab. Click on -Clear Now- under the -Private Data- section. Click Ok and your done.

Netscape also uses the term Internet cache for the temporary stored files. Go to Edit -> Preferences and a new window will pop up. There you can clean your browser’s history by clicking on -Clear History-. To clean Netscape’s internet cache click on the [+]Advanced tab on the left menu. Click on -Cache- subtab. New settings will appear on your right. To clean your temporary internet files click on -Clear Disk Cache- on the right. A pop up confirmation message will appear. Click Ok and you’re done.

If you want to go even further then here’s Internet History Eraser A software that will not only clean your temporary internet files folder, but will also take care of cookies, other temporary files, browser history, clipboard data, registry streams, auto-complete data forms and a lot more.
The History of Voice over Internet Protocol By the end of 2006,
Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) may account for as much as
25 - 40% of international voice traffic. This prediction is
impressive, but it is even more amazing when you consider the
relatively short history of voice over internet protocol. It
began as a hobby for some people in Israel who were only able to
communicate by computer.

Later that year, in 1995, the first company in the history of
voice over internet protocol to put a product on the market was
Vocaltec. They released Internet Phone Software, which in
combination with a home computer, sound card, speakers,
microphone and modem allowed users to make a phone call over the
internet. However, the people on both ends had to have the same
setup, and sound quality was much less than on a normal phone.

In 1998, there were more milestones in the history of voice over
internet protocol. Entrepreneurs began to recognize the
potential of the technology and soon computer-to-phone and
phone-to-phone connections (still using a computer for the
transmission) were possible for making voice calls over the
internet. The service was available using a phone at a
provider’s location in North America only.

It required the users to listen to an advertisement at the
beginning and end of each phone call, but in exchange their long
distance calls were free. In 1998, less than 1% of voice calls
were made using voice over internet protocol.

Businesses began to use VOIP over their intranets to help
communicate within their company. But with the introduction of
switching equipment in 1998 by 3 manufacturing companies, the
history of voice over internet protocol took a turn towards the
future.

Now VOIP could become more readily available to users at home
instead of at a specific facility belonging to the provider. By
the year 2000, more than 3% of voice calls were made over the
internet using VOIP.

Today, there are both hardware and software options for those
interested in business VOIP and for their personal use. You can
purchase hardware that will allow you to use your normal phone
handset when making a phone call.

You can buy phones that are VOIP ready and need only an internet
broadband connection. Or, you can purchase or download software
that will let you use your computer instead of a phone, provided
that you have speakers, a microphone, and an appropriate sound
card.

Many phone companies have begun to offer packages that include
local and long distance VOIP calls for a flat monthly fee. With
the advent of broadband services, sound quality has become
parallel to regular land line phones for the first time in the
history of voice over internet protocol. And the number of
people using VOIP is only expected to grow.
